DES MOINES, Iowa–Claiming five-of-six singles points, the University of Kansas Women’s tennis team remains undefeated in dual competition after grabbing a 6-1 victory over the Drake Bulldogs Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa. The Jayhawks–6-0 for the spring season–snapped the Bulldogs’ 11-match win streak, dropping Drake to 11-2 this spring.

After losing at No. 1 doubles, Kansas would snag wins at No. 2 and 3 to clinch the doubles point. Sophomore Claire Dreyer and junior Victoria Khanevskaya dominated at the 3 position, ensnaring an 8-2 win over Drake’s Amanda Aragon and Nell Boyd. At No. 2, junior Monica Pezzotti and sophomore Paulina Los narrowly escaped Jessica Aguilera and Klavdija Rebol, 9-7, to give KU a 1-0 advantage heading into singles play.

With their two singles wins, Dreyer and newcomer Maria Belen Ludueña both remain perfect in singles play this spring. Dreyer, a sophomore from St. Louis, defeated Aguilera, 7-5, 6-3, at the No. 5 spot. Ludueña, a Curico, Chile, native, won the first set tiebreaker en route to her 7-6(1), 6-3, victory over Gabriela Demos at the No. 3 position.

Pezzotti, Khanevskaya and sophomore Dylan Windom also claimed singles victories against the Bulldogs.

The Jayhawks return to the court Sunday morning when the team takes on Montana. The meet is set to begin at 11 a.m.
