Kansas in Third Place After Day One at the Sir Pizza Challenge in Miami

MIAMI, Fla. – Kansas freshman women’s golfer Yupaporn Kawinpakorn fired a two-round even-par 144 and is tied for third individually after day one of the Sir Pizza Terrapin Challenge at the Senator Course as Shula’s Golf Club in Miami Lakes, Fla., Monday.

Kansas shot a two-round 597 (+21) and sits in third place out of 16 teams heading into tomorrow’s final round on the par-72 course which plays 6,278 yards for the Sir Pizza Terrapin Challenge. KU’s morning round of 292 was its lowest of the 2012-13 season. The Jayhawks, who shot a 305 in the afternoon, are seven strokes behind leader North Carolina State (590, +14) and trail Florida International (591, +15) by six shots.

Kansas junior Meghan Potee continued her consistent golfing and has a two-round 147 (+3) after shooting a 74 in the morning round and improving by one with a 73 in the afternoon. Potee, who was KU’s top scorer in last week’s tournament, is in eighth place out of the 93-invididual field.

In the morning round, Kawinpakorn recorded a combined seven birdies in her two rounds with four in the morning and three in the afternoon in her even-par effort. Brittany Marchand of North Carolina State leads the field with a 4-under 140. She shot a 3-under 69 in her morning round and a minus-1 71 in her second round. She is one stroke ahead of teammate Lindsay McGetrick who scored a two-round 141 (70-71). Kawinpakorn is tied for third with Florida International’s Meghan MacLaren at even par.

In her first tournament as a Jayhawk, sophomore transfer Minami Levonowich carded KU’s third-best two-round score with a 6-over 180. Included was an even-par 72 in her morning round. Levonowich is tied for 18th individually. KU freshaman Thanuttra Boonraksasat is tied for 61st with a 159 (+15), while senior Audrey Yowell is tied for 72nd with a 162 (+18). Playing as an individual, Jayhawk sophomore Gabby DiMarco is tied for 64th with a 160.
