Final Stats | Notes

NORMAN, Okla. –

Sophomores Julian Wright and Mario Chalmers scored 18 apiece to lead the No. 3 University of Kansas men’s basketball team (26-4, 13-2) past Oklahoma (15-13, 6-9) Monday night at the Lloyd Noble Center. KU has now won seven straight and finished the season 7-1 on the road in conference play.

Wright finished the game 8-of-12 from the field and added eight rebounds and four assists to his stat line. Chalmers tied a career high with seven rebounds, distributed five assists and had two steals in the victory. Junior Sasha Kaun was the third Jayhawk to finish in double figures, scoring 11 points and tied a season best by grabbing nine rebounds.

Oklahoma rallied to tie the game at 51, but Kansas responded with a 9-4 run, including four critical free throws from Chalmers to reestablish a lead it would not surrender. For the game, Chalmers finished a career-best 10-of-12 from the charity stripe.

Kansas took a 33-19 lead into halftime behind Wright’s 12 points and four rebounds. Wright wasted little time getting involved in the game, scoring KU’s first six points and assisting on the next two possessions. Junior Russell Robinson returned after missing last Saturday’s Iowa State game and quickly scored two lay-ups. In the half, the Jayhawks continued to employ suffocating defense, limiting the Sooners to seven field goals and 24-percent shooting from the field (7-of-29).

Kansas returns home for the season finale against nationally-ranked Texas on Saturday, March 3. The game will tip at 11 a.m. and will be televised on CBS. KU will open Big 12 Championship play on Friday, March 9, at the Ford Center in Oklahoma City. Seed, opponent and game time are yet to be determined.
