Big 12 Conference Academic All-Big 12 Release

IRVING, Texas – Seventeen Kansas swimmers and divers were named to the Academic All-Big 12 team, announced by the conference Tuesday afternoon. Kansas led the league on the women’s side with the most female student-athletes of the six Big 12 institutions with women’s swimming and diving programs. Of Kansas’ 17 honorees, fourteen received first team accolades (3.20 GPA or higher), while three were named to the second team (3.00-3.19 GPA).

The 2007-08 Academic All-Big 12 team consists of 112 members, both men and women. The women’s team boasts 76 student-athletes, 61 on the first team and 15 on the second team, whereas the men’s team honored 30 first team members and six second team nominees.

Among the Kansas athletes to receive accolades, junior Jessica Brozek was one of only six women in the conference to record a perfect 4.0 GPA. This is the second-straight year Brozek has received Academic All-Big 12 honors with a perfect mark in the classroom.

While freshmen and transfer student-athletes are not eligible in their first year of academic residence, eligible student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher, either cumulative or the two previous semesters, and must have participated in 60 percent of his or her team’s scheduled contests.

Kansas swimming and diving will be in action at the Big 12 Conference Championship meet Feb. 27 to March 1. For news and results following KU competition, visit www.kuathletics.com.
