KU Swimmers & Divers Leave Columbia with Plenty of Top Times, Confidence

COLUMBIA-Mo.- In a meet that saw the Kansas swimming and diving team post the most points at a Big 12 Championship, since 2008 (423), the Jayhawks also recorded numerous top times and scores for many of the student-athletes that competed this past weekend.

A total of 20 KU swimmers earned top times in 36 different events, while two Jayhawk divers earned high scores in the platform. Leading the way in the best times category were freshmen Caroline Patterson and Rachel Snyder who saw three fastest times. Junior Brittany Rospierski was the fastest upperclassmen with her three, and freshman newcomer Kaja Kolsek also made a splash in her first Big 12’s with a trio of best performances. The Jayhawks saw their fastest performances in the 200 IM, with six swimmers earning top times in the event. The 50 free was the second best event for KU, where five swimmers made the list. The 200 fly, 100 fly, 500 free and 100 breast, were also successful events as three swimmers compiled best times in those.

While Kansas put up a modest 128 points up on the board during the event’s first two days, the Jayhawks surged into a comfortable lead over Iowa State for the battle for fourth, with their 295 points during days three and four. Below is a look at how KU fared each day during the four-day event.

The 423 points was the most scored by a Kansas team at the Big 12 Championships since 2008, when they posted 505 and finished fourth.

“We saved our best for last. It was an awesome way to end the meet and we ended with a lot of momentum,” thought Kansas head coach Clark Campbell. “We had a lot of season best times, championship finalists and consolation finalists.”

The Jayhawks will take part in today’s `last chance meet’ inside the Mizzou Aquatic Center before departing for the cozy confines of Lawrence.022612aah_267_7494230.jpeg
