Feb. 28, 2007

LAWRENCE, Kan. — The University of Kansas tennis team will continue its road swing this weekend when it visits Iowa and Iowa State. The Jayhawks will face the Hawkeyes on Friday at 3 p.m in Iowa City and will then head to Ames on Saturday for a Big 12 showdown with the Cyclones, whom KU has defeated 27 straight times.

Kansas currently sits at 2-8 overall and 0-2 in the conference following last weekend’s 6-1 setback at the hands of Oklahoma State. KU’s only point came in the No. 5 singles position from sophomore Yuliana Svistun, who has won five straight.

The Jayhawks also got a victory in doubles play from its No. 1 duo of junior Elizaveta Avdeeva and sophomore Edina Horvath, improving the tandem’s spring record to an impressive 8-2.

Iowa currently sits at 4-4, but have won three of its past four contests, including a 4-3 win at No. 60 Alabama. Last season, the Hawkeyes narrowly defeated the Jayhawks, 4-3, on March. 11 in Lawrence.

KU enters Saturday’s dual with ISU boasting a 30-1 all-time series record. In the two squads’ last meeting, Kansas handled the Cyclones, 6-1, on April 2 in Lawrence. The win capped a streak of six-straight victories for the Jayhawks during the midpoint of last season.

Iowa State comes in with a record of 4-3.

Complete results from each dual will be available at www.kuathletics.com shortly after play is completed.
