LAWRENCE, Kan. – First-year Kansas football head coach Charlie Weis announced the dates for the Jayhawks’ spring season here Wednesday afternoon. KU will open the 2012 spring season on Tuesday, March 27 and will wrap things up on Saturday, April 28th with the annual Spring Game at 1 p.m., at Memorial Stadium.

Per NCAA rules, KU will hold 15 practices during the spring season. As a safety precaution, in two of the practice sessions players will be limited to helmets only. Additionally in a third session players are only allowed to dress out in helmets and shoulder pads, as they are required to go through an acclimatization period. The remaining 12 practice sessions players are able to wear full pads and participate in live contact drills for a portion of practice.

KU will conduct its helmets-only practice sessions on Tuesday, March 27 and Thursday, March 29. The Jayhawks will then begin practice in full pads on Saturday, March 31 as they go through their third session of the spring.

Other notable spring practice sessions are as follows: Friday, April 13 and Saturday, April 14–High School Coaches Clinic; Thursday, April 19–6 a.m., practice session to accommodate Kansas Relays.

Kansas will conclude the 2012 spring season with its annual Spring Game, which will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday April 28. The game is free to the public.
