Jayhawk Tennis Sweeps UMKC, 7-0

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Coming off two difficult losses last weekend, the Kansas women’s tennis team gained back some momentum with a sound defeat of UMKC, 7-0, at First Serve Tennis Center Sunday afternoon.

With the win, Kansas improves to 5-3 while UMKC drops to 0-7 on the season.

In doubles action, the new pairing of Edina Horvath and Ekaterina Morozova made quick work of Chelsea Horner and Emily Lindsay, 8-0, while Alessandra Dzuba and Erin Wilbert finished second, defeating Yakominich/Amelunge, 8-2. Yuliana Svistun and Kunigunda Dorn, also playing together for the first time this season, wrapped up the doubles sweep for Kansas as they took an 8-4 victory over Jessica Ball and Katherine Rist.

Morozova started singles play for KU with a quick 6-0, 6-0 victory over UMKC’s Amelunge at the No. 2 position and Dorn followed with a win against Horner, 6-1, 6-0, in the three slot. Svistun was the next Jayhawk to finish, defeating Rist, 6-0, 6-0, to give KU the winning fourth team point. Maria Martinez dispatched her opponent, 6-1, 6-0, and Horvath won her first match at the No. 1 position this season, 6-1, 7-5. Wilbert rounded out singles action with a 6-1, 6-1 defeat of Ball to clinch the sweep for the Jayhawks.

The Jayhawks are back in action when they host BYU on Friday, March 6, at First Serve Tennis Center in Lawrence. Match time is set for 1 p.m.
