Kansas Head Coach Ritch Price

On winning the home opener:

“I think we had a good, solid performance. (Lee) Ridenhour went out and threw strikes and he had a good defense behind him. It was obviously a tough day to pitch and hit with as cold as it was, but we did a good job. It’s important to try to establish the fact that you’re going to win at home in Division I baseball, and I think it was a good start for us.”

On freshman pitcher Lee Ridenhour:

“I have been really pleased (with his performance). At Arkansas Tuesday night, in one of the greatest venues in America, he came out and pounded the strike zone. He pitched five solid innings and gave us a chance to use our bullpen properly. That gave us the chance to pick up that huge win against a ranked team. I thought he was solid today, especially with the conditions the way they were. Hopefully he’ll continue to develop and make progress by the time we start conference (play).”

On the offense:

“They’ve done a nice job running the bases so far – turning singles into doubles and things like that. I think that’s been the key. I’ve also been pleased with our two-strike hits and two-out base hits. Those are key because this team isn’t as physical (with the bat) as we’ve been in the past. There are going to be times during the course of the season where we’ll need to hit a two-run homer or something to cut a margin when we’re behind, but the power’s going to come.”
