Kansas Tennis Suffers Setback against No. 40 North Texas, 6-1

TULSA, Okla.–While freshman Maria Belen Ludueña remains undefeated in singles competition, the University of Kansas women’s tennis team suffered its first loss of the season against No. 40 North Texas, 6-1, Saturday in Tulsa, Okla. The Jayhawks dropped to 7-1 in dual competition while the North Texas Mean Green improved to 9-5 for the spring season.
Ludueña, ranked 118th in singles play, recorded Kansas’ only victory on the day. The newcomer from Curico, Chile, took down North Texas’ Valentina Starkova, 6-3, 4-6 (10-5), at No. 3. She remains undefeated so far this spring.
Sophomore Claire Dreyer, who entered the match also undefeated in singles, dropped a 6-4, 6-0, decision to Ilona Serchenko at the No. 5 spot. The Jayhawks were swept in doubles competition for the first time this spring.
KU will return to the court Sunday to take on No. 30 Tulsa (7-2) at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla. The match is set to begin at noon.
