Kansas to Hit the Road for Pair of Matches in New Orleans

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Junior Maria Martinez looks to continue her four-match winning streak when the Kansas Tennis team travels to Tulane and New Orleans this Saturday and Sunday.

Martinez boasts a team-high singles record of 6-2 with her only losses coming against No. 6 Notre Dame and Iowa.

Sophomore Erin Wilbert, a native of Lafayette, La., also comes into the weekend with a winning 5-3 record in singles play.

KU returns to the court after a sweep of New Mexico State and UTEP last weekend. The Jayhawks improved their record to 5-3 on the season.

Tulane enters this weekend’s matches with a 5-4 record. The Green Wave are led by sophomore Mariam Kurdadze at the No. 1 singles spot. The Jayhawks own a 2-1 advantage over Tulane, including a 6-1 defeat in Lawrence last year.

New Orleans enters this weekend’s matches with a 2-4 record. The Privateers are led by sophomore Cassandra Escobar and junior Kozue Matsumoto. Sunday’s match marks the first time KU and New Orleans have met.

Kansas continues match play next weekend when it returns home to host Saint Louis at the Jayhawk Tennis Facility at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 13.
