Bal Leads Kansas After Day One at Duramed/Rio Verde Collegiate

RIO VERDE, Ariz. – Junior Meghna Bal shot a 74 in the first round of play at the Duramed/Rio Verde Collegiate to help Kansas finish day one of the tournament in fifth place.

Kansas, the defending champions of the tournament, shot a 303 as a team and is 12 strokes behind first-place Michigan.

Bal is currently tied for ninth, while Emily Powers and Grace Thiry are both tied for 17th after carding rounds of 75. Defending champion Meghan Gockel fired a 79 to finish the day tied for 52nd. Junior Jennifer Clark rounded out the Jayhawk lineup tied in 72nd with a one-round score of 82.

Ashley Bauer of Michigan set the pace for the tournament after firing a three-under par 68.

The tournament will continue with round two on Saturday and will wrap-up on Sunday.
