Kansas-Iowa Doubleheader
March 5, 2010

Head Coach Ritch Price
On the games:

“I thought T.J. (Walz) did an excellent job of setting the tone in the first game. He showed why he is one of the best pitchers not only in our conference but in the country. I thought that he set the table for everything good that took place. We also had production from one through nine in our lineup. The tail end of our lineup contributed and that hasn’t been the case in all of our games so far this year. We are so young in the back part of our lineup and we have some guys that are trying to get their feet wet and get acclimated to playing at this level. I think in the second game Iowa obviously played very well. They hit well with two strikes. We only hit a few balls hard in the second game.

On Casey Lytle’s base-running error:

“Obviously that was a crucial base-running error. He is one of our better players and he finally had gotten himself going in the second game with three base hits. He just made a crucial base-running mistake. As soon as it happened he knew he made a mistake. It is a play that we are going to learn from and it is a good teaching moment for our team tonight. You are down four and you have the tying run coming to the plate and you run yourself right out an inning before you second and third hitters get a chance to hit. They are two best hitters on our team.”

On playing at home:

“It just feels good to play. We worked on the field all the way to batting practice just to get the field playable. I feel really bad for our infielders. We just aren’t a very good fielding team right now. We have missed 11 days of practices and it shows that we haven’t had very much time on the dirt. We booted a ball in the first game and we could have gotten another error in the second game.”
