Six Jayhawks Set Personal Records at ISU NCAA Qualifier

AMES, Iowa –

It was a solid effort by the KU track team on Saturday afternoon at the ISU NCAA Qualifier in Ames, Iowa. Six Jayhawks set personal bests and the men’s 4X400 meter relay team moved up in the KU record books in an attempt to qualify for next weekend’s NCAA Indoor Championships in College Station, Texas.

The 4X400 meter relay team ran the second fastest time in school history to finish 10th in the event. Pieter Marx, Keron Toussaint, Dominique Manley, and Kyle Clemons crossed the finish line in 3:09.84 which was 2.14 shy of hitting the NCAA Championships qualifying mark.

The men’s 4×400 relay team is waiting to see if they qualify for the NCAA Championships. 3:07.70 is the time needed for automatic qualifying. The NCAA will take all automatics plus up to 12 teams based on a descending order list in the 4×400 relays. The final qualifiers will be announced on Monday.

Freshmen Dalen Fink, Neck Seckfort, and Patrick Helmick each set PR’s in the 800-meter dash on Saturday afternoon. Fink finished 11th with a time of 1:52.23, Seckfort, 18th with a time of 1:54.43, and Helmick took 27th with a time of 1:59.00. Senior Ebo Browne also competed in the event, finishing in 1:59.43, and placing 28th.

In the men’s 400 meters, sophomore Kyle Clemons finished seventh with a time of 46.91, his second fastest time of the season. Freshman Alex Hernes and Junior Bruce Tyner each set personal bests in the event with Hernes finishing in 51.24, placing 19th, and Tyner right behind him with a 20th place finish, crossing the finish line in 51.41. Junior Issac Bradshaw ran his best time of the season in the event, placing 21st with a time of 51.49.

The lone representative of the women’s team was Anna Barber. She competed in the 800 meters and set a personal best. The Senior finished in 2:22.48 and placed eighth.
