KU Tennis Blanked by Iowa, 7-0

Cedar Rapids, Iowa – The University of Kansas tennis team was defeated by the No. 58 Iowa Hawkeyes on Sunday, 7-0, at the Clark Racquet Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The loss drops the Jayhawks record to 2-8 on the season.

The Jayhawks were unable to win any of the three doubles matches, or any matches in singles competition on the day. In No. 1 doubles action, KU’s team of sophomore Brittany Brown and freshman Lauren Hommell lost to Iowa’s Meg Racette and Hillary Mintz, 8-3.

In No. 1 singles, freshman Elizaveta Avdeeva was unable to continue her three-match winning streak as she dropped a tough match to Racette in a third-set tiebreaker, 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (7). Junior Christine Skoda was dropped by Iowa’s Anastasia Zhukova, 6-4, 6-2, in No. 2 singles.

The Jayhawks will next head home to face Big 12 foe Nebraska on March 12, in Lawrence. The match is scheduled to begin at noon and will be held at Robinson Courts.
