Stanley Redwine Named Big 12 Women's Coach of the Year

March 6, 2013

IRVING, Texas – Kansas head track & field coach Stanley Redwine was named the Big 12 Women’s Indoor Coach of the Year it was announced by the league office Wednesday. It is Redwine’s second conference honor after being named the league’s outdoor coach of the year in 2005. This season he led the women’s team to the program’s first conference title and is sending a program-best 11 athletes to the NCAA Indoor Championships this weekend.

“I’m definitely excited about this but I’m more excited for our athletes because this is just another honor for our program,” said Redwine. “I’m thankful for both the athletes and assistant coaches because it’s their hard work that put me in a position to get this award.”

In his first 12 seasons at the helm at KU, Redwine has seen 11 of his Jayhawks claim individual titles, 117 All-Americans and five Olympians, including 2012 gold medalist Diamond Dixon. Two of Redwine’s KU teams have already been inducted to the Kansas Athletics Hall of Fame; the 2001 and 2002 men’s teams after each finished eighth at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Redwine was selected to be Team USA’s head coach for the 2007 Pan Am Games in Rio and was an assistant on Team USA’s coaching staff for the 2009 IAAF World Championships in Berlin.

In the past three seasons, Redwine’s athletes have earned a combined 30 indoor and outdoor individual conference titles and 53 indoor and outdoor First Team All-America honors.

Redwine’s Jayhawks are currently the No. 2 team in the nation and will compete for a national championship this weekend after finishing second a year ago.
