March 7, 2007

LAWRENCE, Kan. — The KU tennis team will return home this weekend to face Big 12-foe Nebraska on Saturday and Louisville on Sunday.

Kansas’ match with the `Huskers will get underway at 11 a.m. on Saturday, and the KU-Louisville contest is set to start at 11 a.m. on Sunday. Currently, both duals are scheduled to be played outdoors at Robinson Courts, weather permitting.

The Jayhawks are coming off an impressive 6-1 triumph over conference-rival Iowa State last weekend. The win was KU’s 28th-straight in the series and improved Kansas to 31-1 all time against the Cyclones. Notching singles victories for KU were junior Elizaveta Avdeeva, freshman Kunigunda Dorn, sophomore Edina Horvath, sophomore Yuliana Svistun and junior Stephanie Smith.

The `Hawks also swept all three doubles contests, which included a win from its No. 1 tandem of Avdeeva and Horvath. Their win improved the duo’s Big 12 record to 3-0, which is tied for the conference lead in the No. 1 position.

Overall, KU sits at 3-8, 1-2 on the season, while Nebraska comes in 6-4, 1-3 and Louisville currently boasts a 4-10 mark, including 2-1 in the Big East.

Kansas faced each of these squads last season, defeating Louisville, 4-3, on Feb. 18 and falling to Nebraska, 4-3, on April 5 in Lincoln.

Should weather become a problem on either day, play will be moved indoors to First Serve.
