McCray and Boogaard Honored by Big 12

March 7, 2008

DALLAS, Texas — Kansas sophomore Danielle McCray and freshman Krysten Boogaard were honored by the Big 12 on Friday as part of the 2007-08 Phillips 66 All-Big 12 Conference Women’s Basketball Awards. McCray was selected as All-Big 12 Honorable Mention and Boogaard was named to the Big 12 All-Rookie Team.

McCray leads Kansas in scoring at 14.7 points per game and also leads the team with seven rebounds per contest. Boogaard is third on the team in scoring and rebounding, with 9.2 ppg and 5.5 rpg.

Deb Patterson (Kansas State) was chosen Big 12 Coach of the Year while Courtney Paris (Oklahoma) earned her second consecutive Big 12 Player of the Year honor.

The honors were voted on by the league’s head coaches, with coaches not allowed to vote for their own players.

Patterson led Kansas State to the 2008 Big 12 regular season title, the team’s second championship since 2004. The Wildcats became the first team in Big 12 women’s or men’s basketball history to go from last in the conference standings to first the next year. KSU finished 13-3 in Big 12 contests, one game ahead of second place Baylor. Kansas State is 21-8 on the year with four wins over Top 25-ranked opponents.

Paris leads the Big 12 in rebounding (14.9), field goal percentage (57.4) and blocks (3.36) and is second in scoring (18.3). Her NCAA record for consecutive double-doubles is at 89 games. Paris scored 20-plus points in 10 games this season and had five outings with 20 or more boards.

In her first season with the Lady Raiders, Seals has started 29 of 30 games and leads TTU in scoring (13.8) and rebounding (8.4). She is 14th in the Big 12 in scoring and third in the league in rebounding. Seals has earned three Big 12 Rookie of the Week awards this season.

Robinson took over the starting point guard duties for Oklahoma in her second collegiate game. She is fourth in the Big 12 in both assists (4.25) and steals (2.29). Her 12.7 points a game are second for the Sooners and 18th in the league. She was named Big 12 Rookie of the Week on three occasions.

Atunrase has been the Aggies’ first player off the bench after missing the season’s opening nine games while recovering from surgery in October to correct a non-healing stress fracture in her right tibia. Her 9.3 points rank third-best for A&M, while her 4.2 rebounds are fifth. She scored a season-high 24 points against Baylor on March 1.
