No. 25 Jayhawks Win Eighth Straight, Down Wildcats, 10-1

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

The 25th-ranked University of Kansas baseball team continued its winning ways, defeating the Baker Wildcats, 10-1, Wednesday afternoon at Hoglund Ballpark. The victory marked the Jayhawks eighth consecutive win and improved KU’s overall record to 14-4.

Trailing 1-0, Senior Gus Milner got KU on the scoreboard with a RBI double in the first inning. Milner then hit a three-run blast in the third inning to give KU a 4-1 lead. The home run was his fifth of the season.

Freshman Preston Land and junior Dylan Parzyk hit back-to-back doubles to score KU’s first run of the fourth inning. With two outs, seniors Ritchie Price and Jared Schweitzer capped the inning with back-to-back homers. Price’s two-run home run was his first of the season while Schweitzer’s was his third.

Junior Kyle Murphy finalized the KU scoring with an RBI single in the fifth followed with a run-scoring double in the seventh to extend the KU lead to 10-1.

Six Jayhawk hurlers took the mound and limited the Wildcats to one run and five hits. Freshman lefty Andy Marks picked up his first career victory for KU holding the Wildcats scoreless in his one inning of work. Making his second start of the season, freshman Nick Czyz went three innings and allowed only one run while fanning three.

Next up, the Jayhawks hit the road for a three-game series against Clemson. The No. 2 nationally ranked Tigers will host the Jayhawks for a three-game series beginning on Friday, March 10. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. central.

Game Notes: Price’s and Schweitzer’s home runs the second time this season KU has hit back-to-back home runs … The Jayhawks improved to 49-0 under head coach Rich Price when scoring 10 or more runs in a game … John Allman extended his hitting streak to eight games while Gus Milner has now hit in seven straight … KU is now 52-6 all-time against Baker.
