Kansas Spring Football Game April 24

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas football fans will get an opportunity to see Turner Gill’s first Jayhawk football team when the program holds its annual Spring Game on Saturday, April 24.

The game at Kivisto Field at Memorial Stadium will kickoff at 1 p.m. and is free to the public. The game will be televised on Metro Sports and Kansas 22, while also being broadcast on the Jayhawk Radio Network.

The Jayhawks return 39 lettermen, including 17 starters from last season. Among the returnees are All-Big 12 Honorable Mention selections Tanner Hawkinson, Jake Laptad and Alonso Rojas.

Hawkinson, an offensive tackle was also named to several Freshman All-America teams after his 2009 performance. Laptad, a defensive end, led the team with 12 tackles for loss, including 6.5 sacks a year ago. Rojas posted better than a 44-yard average on punts from his own side of the 50-yard line and placed 15 inside the 20-yard line last season.

Offensively, all five starters on the offensive line are back, along with tight end Tim Biere and wide receivers Johnathan Wilson and Bradley McDougald. The defense returns seven starters, including three-year starter Chris Harris and linebackers Huldton Tharp and Drew Dudley.

The kicking game returns both Rojas and placekicker Jacob Branstetter.

Gill, who enters his first year at Kansas after turning around the Buffalo program, will get his first look at his team on the field when spring practice begins March 27.
