Danielle McCray And Carolyn Davis Earn All-Big 12 Honors

March 8, 2010

DALLAS –

Kansas senior guard-forward Danielle McCray and freshman forward Carolyn Davis were named Second Team All-Big 12 and to the All-Big 12 Freshman Team, respectively, as announced by the conference office Monday. The honors were voted by the league’s head coaches who are not allowed to vote for their own players.

McCray earned Second Team Honors despite playing in only seven Big 12 games prior to suffering a season-ending knee injury on Feb. 4. At the time of her injury, the 5-foo-11 Olathe, native ranked second in the conference in scoring (19.8), ninth in rebounding (7.2), fourth in three-point field goals made (2.4) and seventh in three-point field goal percentage.

McCray earned all-league honors for the second-straight season. She was named First Team All-Big 12 as a junior and was tabbed the Preseason Big 12 Player of the Year entering the 2009-10 season. She concluded her Kansas career ranked fourth on the Jayhawk all-time scoring chart with 1,934 points and was in the top 10 in the career record books in nine other categories.

Davis is the second Jayhawk in the last three seasons to earn a spot on the All-Freshman team as Krysten Boogaard nabbed the honor in 2008. Davis led KU in scoring and rebounding in Big 12 games with 12.5 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. She topped the league in field goal percentage in both overall games (68.9 percent) and conference only games (68.6) percent.

Davis was twice named Big 12 Freshman of the Week, taking home the honors on Feb. 1 and Feb. 15. Davis has collected five double-doubles on the season, including a 29-points, 14-rebound performance against Texas on Feb. 13. Her 29 points and 14 rebounds both marked career-bests.

Connie Yori (Nebraska) earned her first Big 12 Conference Coach of the Year honor while Kelsey Griffin (Nebraska) became the first Cornhusker to garner Big 12 Player of the Year.

Danielle Adams (Texas A&M) was voted Big 12 Newcomer of the Year, Brittney Griner (Baylor) was selected Big 12 Freshman of the Year and Co-Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year with Yvonne Turner (Nebraska), while Bianca Smith (Colorado) earned the Sixth Man Award.
