Jayhawks Finish 15th at Louisiana Classics

LAFAYETTE, La. –

Nate Barbee was the top finisher for the Kansas men’s golf team for the sixth time this year as the Jayhawks finished 15th at the Louisiana Classics at Oakbourne Country Club.

Barbee tied for 28th place after firing his second 73 in three rounds. It marks the first time this season that Barbee has not finished in the top-20.

Freshman Alex Gutesha slid back to a tie for 49th place after shooting a final day 80. Junior Jeff Bell shot the second best round of the day for KU with a 76 and also tied for 49th.

Senior Bryan Hackenberg matched his opening-round score of 78 and tied for 80th place. Freshman Chris Gilbert shot an 84 to finish 83rd.

Freshman Dan Waite competed in the event as an individual and tied for 42nd after carding a final round 75.

LSU was able to break loose from a three-way tie atop the team leaderboard at the start of the day and edge Illinois by two strokes. Andrew Loupe of LSU fired his second-straight 67 to claim medalist honors.

The Jayhawks return to Louisiana March 15-16 when they are set to compete in the Squire Creek Invitational in Choudrant, La.
