LAWRENCE, Kan.–Freshman Maria Belen Ludueña rebounded from her first singles defeat with a win at No. 5 singles, but the University of Kansas could not rally as the Jayhawks fell to No. 40 Oklahoma, 5-2, Friday at the Jayhawk Tennis Center.
KU dropped its third-straight match and third overall, making the Jayhawks 7-3 in dual competition and 0-1 in the Big 12. OU improved to 7-6 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
The Sooners swept in doubles play, claiming the doubles point to begin the afternoon. The new pairing of junior Monica Pezzotti and sophomore Dylan Windom fell to the 34th ranked doubles tandem of Marie-Pier Huet and Whitney Ritchie, 8-1, at the No. 1 spot.
KU’s two victories on the day came in singles competition. Ludueña, ranked 118th in the Campell/ITA Singles Rankings, knocked off OU’s Mia Lancaster in No. 3 singles, 6-3, 2-6 (10-6), to bring the freshman from Curico, Chile, to 9-1 in singles competition this spring.
Sophomore Claire Dreyer also picked up a win at the No. 5 position, taking down Whitney Wofford, 6-2, 6-2, to improve to 8-2 for the season.
KU will complete the weekend Sunday when the Jayhawks play host to Oklahoma State at the Jayhawk Tennis Center. The meet is set to begin at 11 a.m. and is free and open to the public.
