Kansas Golf Named Golfweek Team of the Week

LAWRENCE, Kan. — Kansas women’s golf was selected as the Golfweek.com Women’s Team of the Week, it was announced Monday. The Jayhawks placed four players in the top 10 and coasted to a 24-shot victory at the Duramed Collegiate at Rio Verde this past weekend. The win improved Kansas 10 spots to No. 70 in the Golfweek rankings.

“I was really proud of the way we handled everything in the final round,” said head coach Erin O’Neil. “We were consistent the whole weekend, which was nice to see. It is difficult to play with the lead but we stuck to our game plan and held on.”

Final Notes from the Duramed Collegiate Invitational at Rio Verde:

– Junior Meghan Gockel’s three-round total of 218 was the lowest of her career and tied for the fourth-lowest performance in program history.

– Freshman Kalynd Carson (225) and sophomore Sydney Wilson (226) also had career-low performances over the weekend.

– The three-round total of 883 was the program’s lowest score since March 2007 when they shot an 874 at the Mountain View Collegiate.

– The win marks the fifth team title for head coach Erin O’Neil since she arrived at KU in 2004.
