Divers Head to NCAA Zone `D' Meet

March 10, 2009

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Senior Hannah McMacken, junior Meghan Proehl and sophomore Erin Mertz will represent the University of Kansas swimming and diving team at the NCAA Zone `D’ diving meet March 13-15, in Columbia, Mo. Hosted by the University of Missouri, the meet will act as the final qualifier before the NCAA Championships in College Station, Texas March 19-21.

McMacken, Proehl and Mertz all achieved qualifying marks for the Zone meet earlier in the season. Mertz has recorded the team-best scores in all three diving events. Proehl has the team’s second best score on the one-meter board this season of 290.10. McMacken, like Mertz, has cracked the 300-point mark this season on the three-meter board, with a score of 301.35.

A strong performance at the NCAA Zones Meet will afford the divers an opportunity to join fellow Jayhawks, Maria Mayrovich and Iuliia Kuzhil at the NCAA Championships. Mayrovich qualified in the 50, 100 and 200 yard freestyle, while Kuzhil qualified in the 100 yard backstroke.

In addition to the trio’s success on the diving board, the divers have been successful leaders outside of the pool. McMacken is the President of the Big 12 Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and Mertz won the Winter Chick-fil-A Community of Champions Award for the University of Kansas.
