March 12, 2008

<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>LAWRENCE, Kan. – Students, staff, alumni and fans of the University of Kansas can help put the school’s official mascot, Big Jay, on the cover of Nintendo Wii’s NCAA Football `09 video game with the Mascot Challenge presented by EA Sports. <?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

To commemorate the first NCAA Football video game on the Wii, the video game’s package will feature a platform exclusively of NCAA college team mascots. Fans will be able to choose their favorite NCAA FBS (Division I) college football mascot, and will ultimately decide which college mascot will represent this year’s NCAA Football ’09 Nintendo Wii cover.

Big Jay has been a part of KU since the 1960s when the KU Alumni Association provided a mascot costume. In 1971, during Homecoming halftime, a huge egg was hauled out to the 50-yard line, and fans witnessed the hatch of Jay’s companion – “Baby Jay.”

Voting has already begun and will close on Friday, March 14. Each computer is limited to one vote per day. To vote for Big Jay, click here.
