Kansas Tennis Hosts Saint Louis and Cleveland State Saturday and Monday

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

After a five-match stretch of road matches, the Kansas Tennis team returns to the Jayhawk Tennis Facility when it takes on Saint Louis and Cleveland State. KU will face the Billikens at 3 p.m. on Saturday and the Vikings at noon on Monday.

The Jayhawks enter the match after a 7-0 loss at Tulane and a 4-0 defeat of New Orleans last weekend.

Overall, KU’s record stands at 6-4.

Leading Kansas this season has been junior Maria Martinez, who boasts a team-best 7-3 record and has won five of her last six matches. Also coming on strong recently has been doubles team senior Kunigunda Dorn and freshman Sara Lazarevic, who have a 2-0 record since being paired at No. 2 doubles.

Saint Louis currently stands at 7-4. The Billikens are led by junior Hailee Elmore, who is undefeated and singles play and was selected Atlantic 10 Conference women’s tennis Player of the Week for the period of Feb. 15-21.

KU defeated the Billikens 6-1 last year in Lawrence and owns the all-time series 5-0.

Cleveland State enters the match with a 7-7 record and is led by sophomore Catrine Bjerrehus who won Horizon League Player of the Week honors last week after going undefeated in singles and doubles play in three straight matches.

Monday’s contest marks the first time the two teams will meet.

The Jayhawks will return to the court to begin conference play against Texas A&M in College Station, Texas at 4 p.m. on March 19.
