March 14, 2007

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

The University of Kansas women’s golf team will compete in a 14-team field at the Betsy Rawls Invitational, March 16-18, at The University of Texas Golf Club (6,323 yards, par 72) in Austin, Texas. The 54-hole tournament will feature 18 holes each day with 8:15 a.m. tee times on Friday and Saturday, and a 9:15 a.m. shotgun start for Sunday’s final round.

Senior Amanda Costner, junior Annie Giangrosso and freshmen Meghan Gockel, Camilla Svensson and Emily Powers will represent the Jayhawks.

“We have been fortunate to have good weather the last two weeks which has allowed us more time to get out and practice,” head coach Erin O’Neil said. “I think it has helped the team’s confidence tremendously. We are a young group and learning as we go. The University of Texas Golf Course will be a good test for us.”

The 14-team field includes Arkansas, Baylor, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, Minnesota, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Penn State, Purdue, SMU, TCU and host school Texas.

The Jayhawks last competed at the Chrysler Challenge, hosted by Florida State University, where they tied for seventh place. Senior Amanda Costner and freshman Camilla Svensson both tied for 22nd place finishing with a final score of 238.
