Kansas 8, No. 1 LSU 4

March 14, 2010 – Baton Rouge, La.

Kansas Head Coach Ritch Price

On taking the series from No. 1 LSU:

“It obviously starts with pitching. (Senior pitcher) Cameron Selik was really sore after his last start, and we didn’t know if he would be able to throw today. Luckily, he was able to take the baseball and give us six innings, which allowed us to set up our bullpen late in the game. I was really pleased with how we played all weekend, especially with how we pitched.”

On the way the Jayhawk hitters produced with two strikes:

“Coach (John) Szefc does a nice job with our hitters. We have some left-handed hitters with some experience and they have good plate discipline. They do a good job of laying off the breaking pitch until there’s two strikes in the count, and they attack the fastball. I thought we swung the bat and competed about as well as we could this weekend.”

On what this means for the Jayhawks:

“Obviously it’s a great win for our program, beating a team as good as LSU down at their place. They have a really good team, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re playing for a national championship again this year.”

“We scheduled this series to give our guys some experience and to see where we’re at before we head into our Big 12 schedule.”
