Marcus Morris named USBWA All-American

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Kansas junior forward Marcus Morris was named to the 2010-11 U.S. Basketball Writers Association All-America Second Team on March 14.

Each of the first-team selections is among the Oscar Robertson Trophy finalists. The USBWA’s National Player of the Year Award will be announced Monday, March 28 and presented on Friday, April 1 at the 2011 USBWA College Basketball Awards Breakfast at the GeorgeR.BrownConvention Center in Houston.

Morris leads the Jayhawks in scoring at 17.3 points per game, which ranks fifth in the Big 12. He ranks second on the team in rebounds per game (7.2) and blocks (21). Morris ranks second in the Big 12 in field goal percentage at 58.7 percent. Morris has led KU in every statistical category at least once this season. He has been named Big 12 Player of the Week three times (Nov. 29, Jan. 17 and Feb. 14) and was named a Wooden Award Mid-Season candidate Jan. 6 and Naismith Mid-Season candidate Feb. 11. Morris was also recently named one of 10 finalists for the Oscar Robertson Trophy on Feb. 28 presented by the USBWA.

Morris led the Jayhawks to their second-straight Big 12 Tournament Championship this past weekend in Kansas City. Morris was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player.

Last season former Jayhawks Sherron Collins and Cole Aldrich were named to the USBWA All-America Teams with Collins on the first team and Aldrich on the second team.
