The University of Kansas women’s basketball team, under sixth-year head coach Bonnie Henrickson, has been selected to play in the postseason Women’s NIT for the third-consecutive season. The Jayhawks will host Prairie View A&M on Wednesday, March 17 in Allen Fieldhouse at 7 p.m.

The postseason appearance is Kansas’ fourth under Henrickson and the 20th in school history. The Jayhawks, who went 4-1 in last season’s WNIT, collected wins over Creighton, Arkansas, New Mexico and Illinois State before falling in the title game to South Florida.

Prairie View A&M, enters Wednesday’s game with a 15-13 overall mark and a 12-6 mark in Southwestern Athletic Conference play. The Lady Panthers finished second in the SWAC, but fell in the first round of the conference tournament to Alabama State. In 2006, the field was compiled of 40 teams in an effort to include conference regular-season championship who did not win their conference tournament. In 2007 the field was expanded to 48 teams and in 2010 the tourney has again expanded to include 64 teams.

The Jayhawks earned the postseason bid after posting an 15-15 overall record. KU posted a 5-11 mark in Big 12 Conference action. Kansas is led by freshman forward Carolyn Davis who averages 10.0 points and 5.4 boards per game. Senior guard Sade Morris turns in 9.9 tallies per game, while sophomore forward Aishah Sutherland contributes 9.7 points and a team-leading 7.2 rebounds per game.
