Kansas Set to Compete in 2009 Desert Shootout

March 16, 2009

GOODYEAR, Ariz. –

The Kansas Men’s Golf team will continue its spring season March 19-21 when they travel to play in the 2009 Desert Shootout at Palm Valley Golf Club (par-71, 7015 yards).

“This tournament is always fun to compete in against mostly northern schools on a very well kept golf course,” said head coach Kit Grove.

The Jayhawks will use the lineup of senior Walt Koelbel, junior Bryan Hackenberg, sophomore Nate Barbee, and freshmen Ian Anson and Blake Giroux for the first time this season. Junior Patrick Roth will also compete in the event as an individual.

Koelbel will look to continue his strong play this spring after recording his best career finish with a tied for third place finish at the Louisiana Classics. Hackenberg also tallied his best finish as a Jayhawk with a tied for 26th place finish at the event.

The 15-team field includes Big 12 rivals Iowa State, Kansas State, and Nebraska. All three days will feature one 18-hole round.
