March 17, 2005

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Kansas senior swimmer Amy Gruber finished 30th in the 50 freestyle event at the 2005 NCAA Swimming Championships in West Lafayette, Ind. The Bigelow, Ark., native, who is competing in the NCAA Championship meet for the fourth consecutive year, recorded a time of 23.06.

“Amy raced well today, despite a technical mistake off the wall halfway through the race,” head coach Clark Campbell said. “In the 50 you can’t afford to make any mistakes, but we are really excited about the 100 butterfly tomorrow.”

Gruber will compete at the second day of the NCAA Championships, Friday, in the 100 butterfly event. Sophomore Jenny Short, the only other Jayhawk to qualify for the NCAA Championships, will be competing in the 100 backstroke event. Complete Kansas results will be available on the swimming and diving website following the competition. For up-to-the-event complete results, log-on to the NCAA Sports website at www.ncaasports.com.
