The Aggies improve to 19-2, while KU falls to 12-10.

Once again, the Jayhawks fell victim to a big inning as the Aggies stretched a 5-3 lead into their final margin with four runs in the seventh. Josh Stinson and Blake Hicks’ RBI doubles were the big blows in the inning.

The Jayhawks kept the Aggies within their sights for much of the game.

After Texas A&M scored two runs in the bottom of the first, KU answered with a two-run rally of its own in the top of the second.

Junior Brock Simpson led off the inning with a walk and scored when junior Ryne Price tripled down the right field line. Catcher Buck Afenir grounded out to short to plate Price and tie the game at two.

TAMU regained the lead with a two-run single in the bottom of the fourth.

However, Kansas answered again and knocked out Aggies’ ace David Newmann in the fifth.

Junior Joe Servais led off the inning with a walk, and moved to second on Murphy’s bunt single. Following Robby Price’s successful sacrifice bunt, John Allman drove in the run with another RBI ground out to short.

Freshman third baseman Robby Price singled in the third inning to extend his hitting streak to 14 straight games. He is the first KU freshman to hit safely in as many as 14 consecutive contests.

Sophomore lefty Nick Czyz struck out a season-high eight hitters in defeat.

The Jayhawks will look to even the series tomorrow evening when the teams meet again at 6:30 p.m. in College Station.
