March 17, 2009

ATLANTA –

The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), in cooperation with State Farm, announced the 52 regional finalists for the 2009 State Farm Coaches’ All-America Basketball Team for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I, with Kansas junior Danielle McCray earning a nod as one of seven finalists in Region 5.

The State Farm Coaches’ All-America Team selection committee will review these 52 candidates and cut the list to 40 finalists on Thursday, March 25. The 40 finalists will all be in the running for selection to the 10-member State Farm Coaches’ All-America Team.

McCray, who was named first team All-Big 12 this season, leads the Jayhawks in scoring with 20.3 points per game, which ranks second in the Big 12. She also is the top rebounder for KU with 7.7 boards per game and leads the Jayhawks in three-point baskets made (66), three-point field goal percentage (.426), free throws made (114) and steals (45).

The Olathe, Kan., native picked up Phillips 66 Big 12 Player of the Week honors three times on the season and also earned a spot on the KU Athletic Director’s Honor Roll. She has scored 20 or more points in 11 of the last 14 games and has poured in over 30 points on three occasions.

McCray and her Jayhawk teammates will return to action on Monday, March 23 when they play host to either Creighton or UC Riverside in the 2009 WNIT. Game time is slated for 7 p.m., in Allen Fieldhouse.

In an effort to establish a fair number of candidates from each region, an equation to determine the number of regional nominees was formulated. The total number of Division I institutions in each region is divided by the total number of Division I institutions to get a percentage for each region.

The State Farm Coaches’ All-America Basketball Team for NCAA Division I will be announced at the State Farm Coaches’ All-America Team Press Conference at the Renaissance Grand and Suites Hotel on April 4, at 9:45 a.m. CT in St. Louis, Mo.
