No. 18 Baylor Pulls Away From No. 25 KU for 5-1 Victory

The 18th-ranked Baylor Bears broke a 1-1 tie in the seventh inning and pulled away late to beat No. 25 Kansas, 5-1, on Sunday in Waco, Texas. After winning one of three games in the series, KU’s record stands at 16-8 overall and 1-2 in the Big 12.

A solo home run by senior Gus Milner was the only run of the game for KU. The homer was Milner’s sixth of the season and tied the game at one in the top of the fourth inning. <?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

An RBI single by BU’s Beamer Weems gave the Bears the lead for good in the seventh inning. The Bears added three insurance runs in the eighth inning.

Senior Kodiak Quick (3-1) took the loss for KU. Quick threw 6.1 innings allowing two runs off nine hits while striking out five. Junior Brendan McNamara came in relief of Quick in the seventh inning and allowed three runs to score, two earned. Seniro Don Czyz pitched the final inning.

Weems led off the third inning with a single and scored on a double off the bat of Zach Dillion. Dillion was thrown out after taking a wide turn around second base for the first out of the inning.

Kansas will be back in action with a mid-week tilt against Creighton in Omaha, Neb. The Bluejays will carry a 15-game winning streak into the game set for Wednesday, March 22, at 3 p.m.

Game Notes: Erik Morrison extended his hitting streak to six games while Jared Schweitzer extended his streak to five… Don Czyz made his 106th career appearance.
