Jayhawks claim 13th place in Austin

AUSTIN, Texas – After inclement weather canceled day two of the 35th Annual Betsy Rawls Invitational, the Jayhawks resumed second-round play at The University of Texas Golf Club, Wednesday, to complete the event in 13th place with a composite team score of 657.
Kansas freshman Grace Thiry led the Jayhawks after firing consecutive first and second rounds of 80 to combine for a final score of 160, good enough to tie in 24th place.
Sophomore Emily Powers dropped in the individual leaderboards after finishing day one in a tie for 11th place. The Quincy, Ill., native carded an 84 in the second round, garnering a final score of 161 to tie for 29th place.
Senior Annie Giangrosso bested her first-round performance by three strokes, firing an 81 in the second round for a two-round score of 165. The Kansas veteran completed the event in a tie for 51st place while sophomore Meghan Gockel finished tied for 77th place with a final score of 172.
Freshman Meghna Bal followed suit to fellow rookie and KU’s top-finisher, Grace Thiry, by carding two consecutive rounds with the same score. Bal’s back-to-back rounds of 87 earned her a tie for 81st place and a final score of 174.
Heavy rains on Tuesday shortened the event to 36 holes. The University of New Mexico claimed team honors with a combined score of 623, while Stacy Lewis of Arkansas edged out Whitney Myers of Florida by one stroke to capture the individual title with a final score of 151.
The Jayhawks will next look to compete at the Mountain View Collegiate in Tucson, Ariz., March 29-31.
