Kansas to Compete In 2011 National Invitational Tournament

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Kansas’ men’s golf team will look to get its season on the right track when it competes in its third tournament of the spring season at the 2011 National Invitational Tournament on March 21-22 in Tucson, Ariz. The Jayhawks last competed in the Louisiana Classics where they tied for 12th place. Prior to that, the team also finished in 12th at the Wyoming Desert Classic. Competing in the tournament for Kansas are seniors Nate Barbee and Jeff Bell, sophomores Chris Gilbert and Alex Gutesha, and junior Doug Quinones, who replaces Dan Waite from the most recent lineup.

Barbee tied for 21st at the Louisiana Classics, with a score of 220, including a low round of 72, his lowest round of the spring season thus far. Barbee’s scoring average is 74.21, currently third best on the team.

Bell finished with a 226 at the Louisiana Classics with a low round of 74, his lowest round of the spring season as well. He currently has the fourth-best scoring average on the team with a 75.21.

Gilbert tied for 25th among individuals with a score of 221, which included a round of 70, his lowest round since the first tournament of the 2010 fall season. He currently has the second best scoring average on the team with a 73.87.

Gutesha tied for 58th among individuals with a score of 227, with a low round of 74. Of the six rounds he has played in the spring season, he has shot 74 in four of those rounds. He currently has the top scoring average on the team with a 73.78.

Quinones replaces Waite from last tournament’s lineup. Quinones competed at the Wyoming Desert Classic and finished with a score of 242. He currently has a scoring average of 75.75, fifth best on the team.

Kansas will compete against Colorado State, Indiana, Kent State, New Mexico, Northern Iowa, SMU, TCU, UTEP, Tulsa, UNLV, Utah, Villanova, Wyoming, and Arizona.

TCU won the tournament in 2010 with a score of 852. Dylan Frittelli of Texas finished first among individuals with a score of 210. Results can be found at golfstat.com<http://golfstat.com> while KU results and recaps can be found at kuathletics.com<http://kuathletics.com>.
