Postgame Quotes

Kansas 5, No. 1 Texas 4

March 20, 2009 – Lawrence, Kan.

Kansas head coach Ritch Price

On the game:

“I couldn’t be more pleased, Shaeffer Hall went out and set the tone. He pounded the strike zone, mixed his pitches and gave us a chance (to win). They made a couple of defensive miscues and we were fortunate enough to take advantage of them.”

On Shaeffer Hall:

“I think it’s one of his best outings of the year. He’s had an outstanding season to date. He has given us a chance to win every time he has gone out there. I thought he did a nice job of locating his fastball early. When they started to sit on his fastball he went to his changeup and was able to mix his pitches. That’s the only way you can get them out, as good of hitters as they are.”

On getting an early lead:

“They have such good pitching and play such great defense that if you are fortunate enough to put a four-spot up on them early on you have a chance, because they are not going to give that up very many times.”

On how the team hit the ball:

“We had nine hits and I thought we had good at bats with runners in scoring position. There were some balls that were hit well and it was hard to hit with the wind blowing in the first six innings of the game. I was pleased; I thought we had a good approach against a really good right-handed pitcher (Chance Ruffin) with a good slider. I thought we waited for him to elevate the ball and our guys put some good swings on him.”
