Kansas' Kuzhil Takes Ninth on Final Day of NCAA Swimming and Diving

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. –

Kansas junior Iuliia Kuzhil took ninth place in the 200-yard backstroke on the third and final day of the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. The swimmer from Cherkasy, Ukraine finished with a finals time of 1:53.44. KU finished 33rd overall with 18 points.

Kuzhil placed 11th in the preliminaries with a time of 1:54.53, before racing to a first-place in B Final, earning her ninth overall.

“Iuliia finished the NCAA Championships on a very high note,” Kansas head coach Clark Campbell said. “She made a commitment this time last year to the 200-yard backstroke, and it has paid off big time.”

This was Kuzhil’s second ninth-place finish of the NCAAs. On Friday, the junior took ninth place in the 100-yard backstroke ended with a B Final time of 52.02 seconds, the fourth-fastest of the competition.
