ST. LOUIS, Mo. –

Despite a pair of three-hit games by junior Brian Heere, the 19th-ranked Kansas Jayhawks were swept in a non-conference doubleheader by Saint Louis University, 12-8 and 8-5 Saturday at the Billiken Sports Center.

With the doubleheader sweep, KU’s first since Feb. 23, 2008, the Jayhawks fall to 11-8 overall, while the Billikens improve to 11-9.

Kansas jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the opening game of the twinbill, but Danny Brock’s three-run homer with two outs in the seventh gave the Billikens an 8-7 lead in the bottom of the seventh.

Kansas starting pitcher T.J. Walz suffered his first loss since the first game of the season, allowing eight runs on nine hits over 6 1/3 innings. Heere and right fielder Casey Lytle each had three hits in the game.

In the nightcap, KU again grabbed an early lead on an RBI single by Brandon Macias in the second. However, SLU produced a pair of three run innings to hand Kansas senior right-handed pitcher Cameron Selik his first loss of the season.

The Jayhawks trailed by five in the top of the eighth, but brought the go-ahead run to the plate after an RBI double by Jake Marasco and an RBI single by Lytle. However, relief pitcher Marco Majia fanned Jimmy Waters with the bases loaded to end the threat.

KU outhit the Billikens in both contests, but weren’t nearly as efficient with their hits.

The Jayhawks will host Creighton on Tuesday at 3 p.m., the team’s first home game since March 10.
