Ohio State Downs Jayhawks, 16-5

BRADENTON, Fla. –
Ohio State scored six runs in the top of the fifth to power past KU in a non-conference baseball game, 16-5, Friday at Robert C. Wynn Field as part of the Florida Spring Classic. <?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>
The Buckeyes improve to 9-6 overall, while the Jayhawks fall to 13-9.
Ohio State pounded out seven straight hits in the fifth inning, scoring six runs and chasing starting pitcher Wally Marciel. OSU designated hitter Chris Macke drove in two runs in the inning as the Buckeyes built an 8-0 lead.
After Erik Morrison hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead to 8-4, Macke struck again with a grand slam just over the left field wall.
Preston Land and Morrison each had two hits for the Jayhawks.
KU (13-9) will play UMBC later today at Wynn Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. CST.
