Lawrence, Kan. – Kansas junior Christine Skoda has been named Big 12 Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for the week of March 14-20, Big 12 officials announced Tuesday.

The Edmonton, Alberta native had two straight-set victories over the weekend at the No. 2 singles position. Skoda recorded a 6-2, 7-6 (6) victory over Oklahoma’s Irina Lykina and defeated Oklahoma State’s Zana Masnic, 6-4, 6-2. KU won both matches by a score of 4-3.

Skoda earned a 1-1 record in doubles play over the past over weekend with her teamed with sophomore Ashley Filberth. The duo is 5-4 on the spring season and 3-2 in Big 12 matches.

“Christine (Skoda) competed very well this weekend and has really taken her game to the next level,” KU head coach Amy Hall-Holt said. “She is very deserving of the award with her 4-1 record in the Big 12.”

This is the second time Skoda has earned Big 12 Player of the Week, as she won the award last season for the week of March 23-29, 2004.
