NORMAN, Okla. –
After losing a close 3-2 decision on a walk-off single in last night’s conference opener with the 11th ranked Oklahoma Sooners, the Kansas softball team fell in similar fashion here Saturday afternoon as OU’s Susan Ogden’s once again had the game-ending hit, a two-run double, to push the Sooners to an 8-0 victory after six innings.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>
<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>Kansas falls to 23-8 overall and 0-2 in Big 12 play. Oklahoma meanwhile improves to 27-8 and 2-0 in the conference.
The Jayhawks struggled to get their offense going connecting for just four hits compared to the Sooners’ 11.
Oklahoma tallied a two-run homer in the bottom of the second inning to take the early lead and then added four more runs in the fourth on two more home runs and an RBI triple. Ogden’s double in the bottom of six sealed the victory for OU with the run-rule.
KU had its best opportunity to get on the scoreboard in the top of third. Senior Betsy Wilson singled to centerfield to start the Jayhawks’ at-bat. Amanda Jobe advanced Wilson to second on a groundout and Dougie McCaulley singled to the shortstop to allow Wilson to move over to third. With two outs and the tying runs on base, McCaulley was called out while trying to steal second for leaving the bag early. Only one Jayhawk reached base for the remainder of the game.
Kansas returns home Wednesday for a doubleheader with MissouriState. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
