Jayhawk Women Host Creighton In WNIT Action Monday

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Kansas women’s basketball team will host Creighton on Monday evening at 7 p.m., in Allen Fieldhouse in a Women’s NIT Second Round game. Creighton advanced to Monday’s game by defeating UC Riverside, 64-51, on Saturday evening in Omaha, while the Jayhawks received a bye in the First Round.

Kansas (18-13, 6-10 Big 12) will be playing for the first time since falling to third-ranked Oklahoma in the quarterfinals of the 2009 Big 12 Championship. The Jayhawks are led by junior guard-forward Danielle McCray who averages 20.3 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. McCray, who was tabbed First Team All-Big 12, also leads KU with 45 steals and 23 blocks on the season.

Junior guard Sade Morris is also in double figures for the Jayhawks as she averages 12.0 points and 4.4 rebounds. Morris is third on the team in assists with 72. Sophomore center Krysten Boogaard adds 9.0 points and 5.6 boards per game and senior Ivana Catic leads KU in assists with 103 on the year.

Creighton (22-11, 14-4 MVC) is led on the season by junior guard Chevelle Herring with 13.2 points per game. Fellow junior Megan Neuvirth adds 12.9 points per game, while sophomore guard Kelsey Woodard turns in 12.8 points a game. Neuvrith and Woodard led the Bluejays in their win over UC Riverside as they combined for 45 points, while knocking down 9-of-14 shots from beyond the arc.

Kansas leads the all-time series between the two schools, 18-12, and claimed a 59-58 overtime in a game played earlier this season. McCray led the Jayhawks with 16 points in the win, while Catic knocked down all six of her free throw attempts in the last few minutes of regulation and overtime to help seal the KU victory. Herring dropped in a career-best 31 points for Creighton in the loss.

Monday’s winner will advance to face the winner of a Second Round game between Oklahoma State and Arkansas.
