LAWRENCE, Kan. – Three outdoor All-Americans from 2011 return for both the men’s and women’s University of Kansas track and field teams as the 2012 outdoor season begins in Baldwin, Kan., at the Baker Relays this weekend, March 24.

The women’s team, who begin the season ranked 10th in the nation will be led this weekend by senior Shayla Wilson, junior Heather Bergmann and sophomore Jessica Maroszek, who earned First Team All-America honors in the 2011 outdoor campaign. Wilson was a member of the school-record breaking 4×400-meter relay team that placed third at the NCAA Championshipsand will hit the track Saturday in the 400 meters. Bergmann is the modern day javelin school-record holder and concluded her sophomore season with a seventh-place finish at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Maroszek will look to capitalize on her outstanding freshman season in Lawrence. She claimed five victories a year ago in the shot put and discus and finished eighth in the discus at the national meet in June.

Juniors Mason Finley and Kyle Clemons and sophomore Johann Swanepoel each earned All-America honors during the men’s 2011 outdoor season. Finley also won the Big 12 title in the shot put and was runner-up in the discus, both events in which he earned First Team All-America honors. Clemons is fourth on the all-time school 400-meter list with his time of 45.98 run in 2010 and earned All-Big 12 honors last year in the event with his sixth-place finish at the conference meet last May. In his debut season, Swanepoel moved himself to fourth on the all-time KU performance lists in the javelin and went on to claim fifth at the NCAA Championships later in the year.

Field events begin at 11 a.m. (CT) on Saturday with the women’s hammer throw while the running events will start at 12 p.m., with the women’s 4×800-meter relay. The rolling schedule will conclude later in the afternoon with the men’s 4×400-meter relay.
