Barbee Finishes Tied for Fifth at the Ron Moore Invitational

Freshman Nate Barbee shot a final-round 69 to finish the tournament seven under-par and tied for fifth place at the Ron Moore Invitational in Goodyear, Ariz. The team shot a final-round 292 to finish in 12th place.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

Barbee’s fifth place finish marks the best finish of Barbee’s career and also marks the best individual finish for the Jayhawks this year. Barbee shot par or better in all three rounds of the event and has now recorded six rounds of par or better on the year.

Freshman Brad Hopfinger shot a final-round 75 to finish the event tied for 20th place. Hopfinger has now finished in the top-30 five times this year.

Junior Zach Pederson shot a final-round 73 to finish tied for 49th. Junior Walt Koelbel carded his second straight 75 to finish tied for 57th place. Junior Brandon Hermreck shot a final-round 77 and tied for 74th place.

Sophomore Patrick Roth competed in the individual tournament at the event and finished tied for 12th among the 17 individuals with a three-round score of 225.

Kansas State overcame San Diego to win the tournament with a final-round score of 287. Troy Merritt of Boise State won medalist honors for the second straight year at the tournament.

The Jayhawks will next be in action April 11-13 when they travel to Wallace, N.C. to compete in the NC State Intercollegiate. Check back to kuathletics.com for complete coverage of the event.
