March 24, 2006

The University of Kansas men’s and women’s track and field teams will begin the 2006 outdoor campaign by traveling to Tulsa, Okla., for the Tulsa Duels at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium on Saturday, March 25. The field events will begin at 10:00 a.m., with running events starting at 12:45 p.m. In addition to KU, Missouri State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Oral Roberts, Wichita State and Tulsa will compete in the meet.

The Jayhawks are coming off a very successful indoor season that saw the men’s team finish 16th at the NCAA Championships, its highest result since 2002 when the team finished eighth. Egor Agafonov (weight throw), Sheldon Battle (shot put and weight throw) and Charisse Bacchus (long jump) all garnered All-American accolades for their performances at the national meet.

Following the Duels, the Jayhawks will be off until April 6 when they travel to Austin, Texas, for the Texas Relays.
