Jayhawks Sit in Sixth After Two Rounds at MountainView

TUCSON, Ariz. –

Freshman Emily Powers shot a second-round 72, while senior Amanda Costner carded a 73 in her second round as the University of Kansas sits in sixth-place at the MountainView Collegiate Saturday at the MountainView Golf Course. <?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

Nebraska leads the event with a two-round total of 572. The Jayhawks sit in sixth at 588, just three shots back of fifth-place Iowa State.

Powers, who shot two-over par 74 in the first round earlier in the day, finished with a two-round total of 146 to be tied for 20th place individually heading into the third and final round on Sunday.

Costner, who shot a 69 in the final round of the event last season, finished with a two-round total of 148 (75-73) to tie for 35th after the first day of competition. Junior Anne Giangrosso (72-77) and freshman Megan Gockel (76-73) both finished the first two rounds at 149, while freshman Camilla Svensson (77-73) carded a 150 to round out KU’s top five performers.

The Jayhawks are the defending champions of the event, winning last year’s competition by one stroke over Nebraska.

Indiana’s Elaine Harris and Oklahoma’s Kendall Dye are tied for first-place in the event, each carding scores of 139 (five under par).

The event wraps up tomorrow with a shotgun start at 8 a.m.
