Head Coach Bonnie Henrickson

On the win:

“I am excited for our kids. It’s great. Survive and advance. There are some things we need to clean up at MichiganState on Thursday, obviously the offensive rebounds that we gave up. I thought we forced some tough shots, but (Evansville’s) effort on the glass was very impressive, and they were rewarded for that with 24 offensive boards. In the first half, we had 18 made field goals on 14 assists. We shared the ball. I thought we made the extra pass recognizing Evansville’s defensive rotations. It was good to get a lot of kids on the floor – a lot of kids that work hard.”

On Sade Morris and Danielle McCray:

“I thought Sade’s confidence was higher. She has been in the gym shooting more threes. Off the dribble, she played strong and with confidence. Danielle had a quiet 20. I was a little surprised when I looked and she had 20. She missed some shots that she is capable of making. She struggled a little bit early but then got in a rhythm.”

On Kelly Kohn:

“She’s back. She has a little more wind, more power in her legs. Her confidence is building. It has been a difficult year – being banged up and sick all year. She is getting back on track, and her confidence is as high as it’s been all year – probably higher than it’s been all year. That’s a nice weapon for us off the bench. Great minutes and great production.”

Sophomore Guard Danielle McCray

On her performance:

“I thought I did all right. I got in some foul trouble and had to sit the bench in the first half. I just wasn’t in a rhythm in the first half and my defense wasn’t there. In the second half, I settled down. I went to the boards and got some put-backs. In the beginning of the game I felt like I was rushing some things.”

On the Jayhawks’ 13 turnovers:

“We are excited about it. It is a sign of progress for us and shows how hard we have been working. We were just making the easy passes and focusing more.”

Sophomore guard Sade Morris

On moving on:

“This is our NCAA Tournament. We are excited to be in this tournament and there are a lot of good teams in this tournament. MichiganState will be a good team on Thursday. We want to keep playing and it will be tough away from home, but I definitely think that we can do it. This is a new season for us. It is a clean slate and we are just looking to start over. We want to go further in this tournament than we did in the Big 12 Tournament.”

Sophomore guard Kelly Kohn

On finally being healthy:

“This is the best that I have felt since I came back from my injury. It is tough to come back from an injury in any sport, but it was especially tough for me to have to try to come back during conference play. You are playing against such good competition and it is hard to get your rhythm back in the couple of minutes you are out on the floor. The extra time off has been great for me to get into the gym and do some extra work. I am starting to feel good about myself again when I get the ball.”

Head Coach Tricia Cullop

On the game:

“We were hoping that Kansas wouldn’t shoot the ball as well as they did tonight. We hoped that a zone would be beneficial, but unfortunately for us, we ran into a team that was just shooting lights out in the first half. It made us have to extend our defense and then they were able to get whatever they wanted. I have an awful lot of respect for Coach Henrickson. I’ve known her for a long time. I’ve known for a long time what a strong coach she is. She’s put together a very strong team here. It’s unfortunate that you are in the league that you are because I’m sure some of those losses have been a little frustrating, but I’m excited to see what Kansas will do in the remainder of the NIT.”

On Kansas Forward Danielle McCray:

“McCray is a fantastic player. Her speed and athleticism are things that we have not seen the likes of this season. She was a handful for us to contain.”

On comparing Kansas to MichiganState:

“I think (Krysten) Boogaard is going to be a nice match-up with the (MichiganState) six-foot-nine kid. We struggled with getting a hand in her face. I think that the athleticism that Kansas has matching up to MichiganState will make for a great ball game. I think it’s going to be an exciting game and I don’t see any reason why Kansas can’t pull this one out.”

On Kansas regaining control after a second half Evansville run:

“Kansas hit a couple more outside shots and got a couple of offensive rebounds and put-backs. To have come that far and to have played what we thought was pretty good defense, and then to see a couple more shots go down were back-breakers. They turned up the heat defensively and stifled us, but I’m really proud of our kids. They fought hard and never hung their heads. They scrapped to the very end and that’s the character that they’ve shown all season long and that’s why I’m so fortunate to be their coach.”
